Major Anna Mathew enlisted into the Papua New Guinea Defense Force as a Direct Entry Officer on the 13th of March 2013. She was then posted to Taurama Military Hospital as a senior Nursing Officer. Before joining the Army, Anna served as a senior nurse specialist in the Operating Theater, Port Moresby General Hospital for 20 Years and has completed her Masters Degree in Nursing at the Flinders University, Australia. Over the past 10 years in the Army, Anna has moved up in rank from Second Lieutenant to Major. She has completed her Direct Entry Training and has taken part in two major operations and served in the highlands of Papua New Guinea.
Currently she is the Force Matron, and a member of the Gender Committee. She has attended gender sensitization workshops, Gender Focal Point workshops, and in August 2023 she attended the military Gender Advisor Course imparted by the US Indo Pacific Command in Hawaii. She is a single mother of a 27-year-old son.
