Session 5 | Gender and Preventing/Countering Violent Extremism

This session will examine the nexus between gender and preventing/countering violent extremism (P/CVE). What roles do women play in extremist organizations, and how do their roles differ from those of their male counterparts? In what ways does gender intersect with drivers of extremism? How do extremist organizations draw on notions of femininity and masculinity in recruitment messaging? How can we encourage gender mainstreaming in P/CVE? How can we adopt a gendered lens in the repatriation and rehabilitation of individuals who traveled to Syria and Iraq?
