Dr. Gloria Jumamil-Mercado is currently the Undersecretary of the Human Resource and Organizational Development of the Department of Education and manages the National Educators Academy of the Philippines and the Teachers Excellence Council Secretariat. She has been with the government and the academe since 1979. Preceding appointments/designations include: Undersecretary for the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Streamlining of Government Processes (OPASGP), at the Office of the President and was also tasked to organize the newly created National Commission for Senior Citizens; the Executive Director/ Undersecretary of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and was designated as the Chairperson of the Philippine Government Implementing Panel for the Philippine Government-Moro Islamic Liberation Front Peace Accords reinforcing her commitment in mainstreaming women, peace and security. She is also the Philippine Focal and the Representative to the United Nations Network on Women, Peace and Security. Dr. Mercado is a member of the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation and is recognized as an expert in the field of peace and security.
