In preparation for the event, participants are requested to complete a pre-meeting survey exploring definitions, progress and challenges on Women, Peace and Security agenda (WPS) across the Asia Pacific region.
UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security was passed in 2000. Two decades hence, WPS has developed into a major global security agenda. As of April 2021, 92 countries or 47 percent of UN member states have adopted a WPS national action plan. Regional organisations such as the European Union and Pacific Islands Forum have developed action plans for implementation. In 2017, ASEAN issued a joint statement promoting the agenda.
Acknowledging this progress, the forthcoming WPS Study Group meeting is intended to encourage academics, researchers and policy makers of CSCAP member countries to identify challenges and opportunities in the adoption of National and Regional Action Plans on WPS and other related issues in the Asia Pacific. The meeting will provide a venue for CSCAP members to appraise past and present work and share ideas about future activities.
The questions in the following survey are, therefore, an attempt by USCSCAP to gauge the perspectives of, and elicit suggestions from, CSCAP participants (government and non- governmental experts) on three main issues:
-
What are the definition, scope and status of WPS in each CSCAP country?
-
If there are no explicit WPS plans and commitments, what are existing efforts taken by governments and non-government actors "in the spirit" of advancing the WPS agenda?
-
What are common areas of progress and remaining challenges to the full realisation of the WPS agenda?
The survey is anonymous which means no information you provide will be used in a manner that can disclose the identity of responders.
If you face any technical issues, please contact crystal@pacforum.org.
Please share this letter with survey link to relevant national and regional stakeholders, including but not limited to:
-
Academia/think tanks/researchers, particularly those working on these issue areas
-
Foreign ministries, militaries, UN Peacekeeping Forces delegations
-
Civil society organizations and regional networks
-
International organizations, development practitioners and aid groups
Based on the responses received from the survey and upon conclusion of the virtual meeting, a preliminary report will be prepared and circulated for critique by USCSCAP/Pacific Forum in cooperation with co-chairs CSCAP New Zealand and CSCAP Indonesia. Findings from the meeting and survey responses will inform the future responsibilities and collective remit of the CSCAP WPS Study Group.
The link will open the Survey in a browser window. Thank you for your participation!
