Military medical support can greatly enhance civilian efforts in responding to public health crises. Health crises, such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak, can limit access to services that are essential to women’s health, including sexual and reproductive healthcare. As such, it is essential that military-civilian medical interventions adequately respond to the unique needs of women and girls. It is also critical that women are elevated as leaders and decision-makers in military-civilian response and recovery planning -- women can bring unique experiences, insights, perspectives to decision-making, while their full and meaningful participation is a fundamental marker of institutional gender equality. 
 
On Tues., June 29, 2021 (US) | Weds., June 30, 2021 (Asia/Oceania), the Pacific Forum, in partnership with the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, will host a 90-minute Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Quadrilateral webinar panel. Speakers from the US, Australia, Japan, and India will reflect on the importance of women’s participation in crisis response planning and the need for integrating a gendered perspective into relief and recovery efforts. Guiding themes of the discussion include military medical support during Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Response and outbreaks of infectious disease (e.g., COVID-19 and Ebola); the importance of sex-disaggregated data for gender sensitive analysis during health crises; best practices for joint military-civilian medical crisis response; and real-world military-civilian experiences. This webinar follows on from Pacific Forum’s first WPS Quad webinar on October 28, 2021, which explored the role of the defense sector in advancing WPS.

パシフィックフォーラムは米国インド太平洋軍と協力し、米国、オーストラリア、日本、インドの講演者を迎えて90分の女性・平和・安全保証（WPS）オンラインセミナーを主催します。パネリストたちが危機対応計画策定における女性の参加の重要性と、救援・復興の取り組みへジェンダーに基づく視点を取り入れる必要性について検討します。議論の指針となるテーマには、人道支援/災害対応中および感染症（新型コロナウィルスやエボラなど）流行中の軍事医療支援、健康危機発生中にジェンダーへ配慮した分析を行うための性別集約データの重要性、軍民共同の医療危機対応のベストプラクティス、および実際の軍民の経験などが含まれます。
